How to work from Bali

Hi! I’m Sofía Mateo, strategy and personal branding consultant, and you’re listening to “Empresaria Nómada”, the podcast where we talk about entrepreneurship, personal development, travel, marketing and much more, all from the point of view of a restless mind. In this episode, we’re going to talk about how I organized myself to work from Bali during these last 6 months, with the time difference and everything that implies. To begin with, I have to be completely honest: I haven’t had the best organization possible. It is important to recognize that sometimes we generate unrealistic expectations, both in ourselves and in others. I could have organized myself better, but I decided to enjoy the amazing environment I was in. Despite this, I did my job and my clients, which is the most important thing. However, I did not develop other growth strategies. In this audio, I will tell you how I organized myself with the time difference between Spain and Bali, which can be between 6 and 7 hours. I would take advantage of the mornings for personal activities, like yoga or surfing, and then I would work from the afternoon until the evening, when I was connected to the computer. I would work around 5-6 hours a day, and on weekends I would work more intensely if necessary. The important thing is to reach our work goals and be available for our clients. We don’t necessarily have to work a fixed, set schedule, but adapt to the needs of the business and our clients. It is also important to consider what stage our business is in when traveling. If we are just starting out, it may be more difficult to maintain organization and productivity. In summary, if you want to travel and work from other places, create a plan of action and strategies to sustain your business. There will always be an opportunity cost, but if you really want it, you will find a way to make it happen. I hope this reflection has inspired you to think about the actions necessary to create a business that allows you to live the life you want.
